PSG yet to make decision over Mbappe as Pochettino calls for bravery against Man City

Paris Saint-Germain have still not decided whether Kylian Mbappe will feature in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final with Manchester City on Tuesday.

Mauricio Pochettino s men face an uphill battle to progress to the final for the second successive season after losing the home leg 2-1 at Parc des Princes.

PSG must score at least twice to go through but could be without Mbappe, who missed Saturday s Ligue 1 game with Lens because of a calf injury.

He did not have a shot in the first leg, marking the first time he failed to muster an attempt after starting a game in his Champions League career.

Still, plotting a turnaround at the Etihad Stadium will be significantly more difficult without Mbappe, who has been involved in the most shot-ending …

Villarreal point to €42million release clause if Barcelona want Juan Foyth

Villarreal vice president Jose Manuel Llaneza has issued Barcelona with a hands-off regarding 24-year-old right-back Juan Foyth, saying they will not negotiate any figure below his €42million release clause.

Foyth, who has made 15 international appearances for Argentina since his first senior cap in 2018, previously spent three years with Tottenham before they loaned him to Villarreal for the 2020-21 season, before the Spanish side ultimately opted to make the deal permanent for €15m.

The 187cm defender, who can play both centre-back and right-back, has accumulated 70 appearances for Villarreal over the past two seasons, including 10 starts in last season s Champions League during his side s march to the semi-final against Liverpool.

Dier signs new Spurs deal

Eric Dier has signed a new contract to keep him at Tottenham until 2024.

The versatile England international had less than a year remaining on his previous deal, but will be remaining at the Premier League club.

Dier joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and has made 239 appearances for the North London side, scoring 11 goals.

The 26-year-old is set to be available for Tottenham s final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday after serving a four-match ban for climbing into the stands to confront a fan after an FA Cup defeat at home to Norwich City in March.

Dier has won 40 caps for his country and scored the decisive spot-kick in England s World Cup penalty shootout victory against Colombia to seal a place in the quarter-finals in Ru…

Transfer deadline day: Chelsea near Fernandez move, Man Utd set for Sabitzer as Porro joins Spurs

Europe s elite clubs raced to beat the January transfer deadline as Pedro Porro signed for Tottenham and Enzo Fernandez neared a record Premier League move when the window slammed shut.

Argentina s World Cup winner Fernandez appeared set to complete a long-awaited move to Chelsea in a record-breaking Premier League transfer.

While Chelsea aimed to bring in the youthful Fernandez, veteran Italy international Jorginho departed as he joined Arsenal after Mikel Arteta s side were unable to secure Brighton and Hove Albion s Moises Caicedo.

Manchester United also looked to strengthen their midfield with a loan deal for Bayern Munich s Sabitzer after an injury to key playmaker Christian Eriksen at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Tottenham solidified their defensive opt…

Spain still pass masters as Luis Enrique starts in style

The sight of Luis Enrique observing Spain training from a scaffolding platform ahead of Saturday s 2-1 win over England felt somewhat apt for a coach put in place to oversee international football s most intriguing rebuilding job.

It really did not have to be this way. Spain s house was impeccably in order heading into the 2018 World Cup. A 3-0 qualification win over Italy and 6-1 friendly shellacking of Argentina suggested La Roja were ready to emulate their class of 2010.

Unfortunately, Julen Lopetegui chucked in a stick of dynamite by agreeing to take charge of Real Madrid. Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales lit the fuse on a misguided matter of principle and sacked his head coach.

The collapse was not instant, as shown in the sho…

Erin Cuthbert nets twice as Chelsea beat Hacken to top Champions League group

Erin Cuthbert’s second-half brace helped Chelsea take control of Group D in the Champions League with a 3-1 win at Hacken.

The two teams had played out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge last week, which left the Swedish outfit top after three matches, but Emma Hayes’ side were able to finish 2023 with a crucial victory.

Sam Kerr broke the deadlock with her ninth goal of the campaign and, while Clarissa Larisey scored for Hacken to ensure it was 1-1 at half-time, Cuthbert netted twice in the space of 12 minutes after the break.

It ensured the Women’s Super League champions moved into top spot of the group after four matches and hold a one-point advantage over Hacken while Real Madrid, who they will host on January 24, are no longer able to qualify for the k…
