I rejected Klopp and Liverpool for Man City move, says Sane

Leroy Sane says that he rejected the chance to join Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool before signing for Manchester City.

The pacey winger has been in spectacular form for City this season, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists for the runaway Premier League leaders.

City bought the Germany international from Schalke in a reported £37million deal in August 2016, after attracting several suitors following his impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

Compatriot Klopp was among those keen to bring in Sane, but the Reds boss was unable to convince him to choose Merseyside over Manchester.

Yes, I was also talking with them, Sane told The Guardian. Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City.

He did a good job at [Borussi…

Kuyt departs Liverpool for Fenerbahce

Dirk Kuyt has joined Turkish powerhouses Fenerbahce from Liverpool on a three-year deal.

The versatile attacker has signed with the Istanbul club on a transfer for an undisclosed fee.

The Netherlands international had long been linked with a move away from Anfield, and has now opted to continue his career at Fenerbahce after previously turning down Feyenoord.

Fenerbahce are a great club to continue my career. They only just missed out on the league title this season. They did qualify for the Champions League qualifiers, though, Kuyt told the official Sport-Promotion website.

I needed a new challenge after six years with Liverpool. This has nothing to do with the club and the fans. They will forever have a place in my heart.

Solskjaer: Manchester United must raise performance against ´lesser teams´

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged his Manchester United players to raise their game against the Premier League s lesser teams .

United picked up back-to-back wins over Tottenham and bitter rivals Manchester City in the space of four days to revive their domestic campaign.

The Red Devils also beat Chelsea 4-0 on the opening day of the season and are the only side to have taken a point off leaders Liverpool this term.

However, they have lost to two teams in the bottom six and drawn against two more struggling sides in Southampton and Aston Villa.

With games against bottom-half teams Everton, Watford and Burnley to come in three of their next four league outings, Solskjaer admitted a change of mentality may be required.

Neymar hails improved understanding with Messi

While Neymar s switch to Barcelona has provoked much controversy, the Brazilian feels he and Lionel Messi are making strides on the pitch.

Vieira and Ribery back for France in World Cup

Coach Raymond Domenech has recalled both Patrick Vieira and Franck Ribery to the French squad for the World Cup qualifier against Romania in Bucharest on October 11.

Both players missed France s opening two qualifiers a 1-3 loss to Austria in Vienna and a 2-1 win over Serbia in Paris which resulted in growing calls for Domenech to be axed.

Former skipper Vieira was in the French squad that contested the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland during the summer but a thigh strain kept him on the sidelines. He returned to action with Inter Milan on September 13.

Ribery sustained an ankle injury in the 0-2 Euro loss to Italy and only just made his comeback with Bayern Munich last week.

Also called back up was striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who has…

Bayern Munich ´inferior in all areas´ during Bayer Leverkusen loss, fumes Salihamidzic

Sporting director Salihamidzic was left fuming by what he perceived as a poor mentality throughout, and felt the visitors deserved nothing at BayArena.

That s not what Bayern means, he told SPORT1 in discussing the performance. We missed everything [that we] deman…
