Coleman: Euro 2016 only the beginning for Wales

Chris Coleman believes this generation of Wales players will continue to go from strength to strength, regardless of the result in their crunch Group B clash with Russia at Euro 2016.

Wales are competing at their first major international tournament since 1958 and got off to a winning start as goals from star man Gareth Bale and Hal Robson-Kanu secured a 2-1 win over Slovakia in Bordeaux.

Bale was on target from a free-kick once more against England but Coleman s men went down to their neighbours by the same scoreline.

A win over Russia in Toulouse on Monday would guarantee their progress to the last 16, while a draw would also leave them firmly in contention.

But irrespective of when Wales time in France comes to an end, Coleman feels there is plenty mor…

Prediction: Koln vs Bayern Munich

Best Odds: 6/4

Bookmaker:

Hoping to temporarily climb back to the top of the Bundesliga table, Bayern Munich will make the trip to Koln on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Koln might have shocked many last season as they narrowly missed out on the chance to book a top-half finish, Steffen Baumgart’s side have come crashing back down to earth this time around. Marking their return from November’s international break at the heart of a relegation scrap and three points adrift of top-flight safety, the Billy Goats will be more than aware that they face a monumental challenge here. Heading into the fortnight interval with an uninspiring 1-1 stalemate away at fellow strugglers Bochum, Koln have recorded just a single victory from their first 11 Bundesl…

Barcelona continue 2018 spending with Mina deal

Barcelona have announced their second signing of 2018, with defender Yerry Mina joining LaLiga s leaders from Brazilian side Palmeiras for €11.8million.

Mina has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Catalan giants.

A deal for Mina had been set up for after the World Cup, but Barcelona were keen to complete an early move for the defender, who made clear his desire to join Ernesto Valverde s side.

The table-toppers said in a stement: Yerry Mina now comes to Barca with the opportunity to continue developing as a footballer following his move to Europe. Without a doubt the Colombian has the potential to make it.

The Colombia international will strengthen Barcelona s defensive options as Javier Mascherano is reportedly expected to leave Camp Nou in t…

Spalletti laments Italy attacking bravery despite Euro 2024 opening win

Luciano Spalletti warned Italy must show more intent to attack despite their 2-1 comeback victory over Albania in Saturday s Euro 2024 victory.

Italy won their opening match at the European Championships for a third straight time (also in 2016 and 2020 editions), after doing so only twice in their first eight such appearances (D5 L1).

The Azzurri needed a fightback performance, however, after falling behind Nedim Bajrami s thumping strike after 23 seconds for Albania against Italy, the fastest goal ever scored in Euros history.

Alessandro Bastoni headed level soon after, though, before Nicolo Barella s 10th international goal proved the difference to send Italy level on points with Spain at the top of Group B.

Yet Spalletti was far from impressed with par…

Netherlands midfielder Van de Beek ruled out of Euro 2020

Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek has been ruled out of Euro 2020 due to injury.

Van de Beek endured a difficult 2020-21 season with Manchester United, making only 15 starts for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s side.

The 24-year-old played no active role in the Netherlands European Championship warm-up fixtures against Scotland and Georgia.

It was announced by the Dutch federation – the KNVB – on Tuesday that Van de Beek will miss the tournament, and head coach Frank de Boer has decided against replacing the former Ajax man in his squad.

Van de Beek has to let the European Championship pass by, the KNVB announced on Twitter.

The midfielder is struggling with an injury. As a result, he is not available in time for EURO 2020. Frank de Boer wil…

Man City 2-2 Arsenal: Best Defensive Performances In Recent Memory

Arsenal s away at title rivals Manchester City was one of the great “backs to the wall” performances in Premier League history. Despite falling behind at the Etihad, courtesy of Erling Haaland’s early opener, the Gunners rallied throughout the latter stages of the first half. Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori rattled home a 22nd-minute equaliser in his full debut, before fellow defender Gabriel Magalhães gave the visitors a shock lead on the stroke of halftime.

Heartbroken Gunners

Before Arsenal could head down the tunnel happy with their work, however, Leandro Trossard picked up a second yellow card for halting a quickly taken freekick in similar scenes to the ones that saw Declan Rice dismissed earlier in the campaign. That left last season s runners-up fa…

Czech Euro 2012 star drops Werder hint

The agent of Czech Republic full-back Theodor Gebre Selassie has confirmed that his client is interested in joining Werder Bremen.

The highly rated defender has just over a year left on his contract at Slovan Liberec, but is heavily tipped to move to one of the top European leagues this summer.

Werder Bremen are currently looking for a new right-back and they believe Gebre Selassie would be a great addition to the squad.

“He is someone who interests us very much,” Werder Bremen chief Klaus Alofs .

“And he also had great interest in coming to us.”

Bild claims Slovan Liberec would settle for a fee between €1.5m and €2m, although they could ask for more after the player largely impressed playing for the national team at the European Cham…

Handanovic pens new Inter deal to 2021

Samir Handanovic has committed his future to Inter until June 2021.

Handanovic had been previously linked with a move to Manchester United, had David De Gea moved on from Old Trafford, while Liverpool have more recently been credited with an interest.

But the 33-year-old appears set to remain in Milan for the foreseeable future after penning fresh terms with Luciano Spalletti s men.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Milan: Boniface ensures Bundesliga champions stay perfect

Bayer Leverkusen made it two wins from as many matches in the Champions League as Victor Boniface s second-half goal saw off Milan 1-0.

Boniface struck on the rebound shortly after the restart at the BayArena on Tuesday, after Mike Maignan had parried Jeremie Frimpong s shot.

In the process, Boniface became the first Nigerian player to score for a German club in the Champions League since Chinedu Obasi netted for Schalke against Sporting CP in October 2014.

It was no more than the home side deserved after an opening half in which they had the majority of possession and chances, having 10 attempts to Milan s one, but they could not find a way past Maignan.

Boniface s goal spurred Milan into action, though, with Theo Hernandez rattling the crossbar before R…

Davis to remain Wolves caretaker until 2023

Wolves have confirmed Steve Davis will remain as caretaker head coach until 2023 as their search for a permanent boss goes on.

Davis assumed caretaker duties after Bruno Lage was sacked earlier this month with the club in the relegation zone, before former Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui reportedly rejected the job.

Since taking over as caretaker, Wolves have lost two of their three matches, though they did claim victory over fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest between those two defeats.

The announcement comes after earlier reports that Queens Park Rangers Michael Beale had turned down Wolves approach to take over at Molineux.

In a statement on the club s official website, chairman Jeff Shi: In the short time Steve and his team have been in interim cha…
